Frozen & Refrigerated Buyer: How High Will PL Go?

Through the first half of this year, private label sales are up 4.1% versus 1.4% for national brands, leading the folks at Wilton, Conn.-based Cadent Consulting Group to predict store brand dollar share will hit a record high 18.4% in 2018. And that’s just for starters. “Over the next decade, we believe private label will achieve a 25% dollar share,” says managing partner Don Stuart, citing results of the company’s just-released 2018 report “The Branding of Private Label.” In it, Stuart and company take a closer look at seven “sea changers” identified in a previous report, not the least of which is the growing influence of millennials.
